Privacy policy

UncleSums needs very little from you. This page says what happens to the information that passes through it. If anything here is unclear, write to contact@unclesums.com.
What you type stays on your device
What you type in a calculator is processed in your browser. The site never receives it, and there are no accounts. We see something you wrote only if you send it to us. When you close the page, it is gone.
Sharing a result
The Share button on a calculator makes a link to that page with the numbers you typed in it. UncleSums sends the link nowhere: you choose who gets it, in the share sheet of your phone or by pasting it where you like.
The site never receives the numbers in a link. When someone opens it, the page fills in the boxes and takes the numbers out of the address, so they do not stay there.
Anyone you send the link to can read the numbers in it, so look at them before you share. The “Send it by email” link on the home, about, contact and privacy pages opens your own email program with the address of the page and no numbers.
What our host sees
The site is served by a hosting company. Like any host, it receives the technical details of each request: your IP address, the page you asked for, your browser and device type, and the time. It uses them to deliver the page and to protect the service from abuse, under its own privacy policy. We see totals about the site as a whole. We don’t see who you are.
Cookies and storage
UncleSums itself sets no cookies and keeps nothing between visits. The visit counter described below may set cookies.
Counting visits
We count visits with Google Analytics. For each page you open, it records the address of the page (but not what a shared link holds), the page title, the site that sent you, your language, and your browser and device type. It also gets your IP address, which Google uses to work out roughly where you are. It does not record what you type into a calculator, and your visits are not used to show you ads. Google keeps the details of single visits for two months, and the totals we read stay longer. How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services explains what it does with the information.
Google Analytics sets two cookies, _ga and one that starts with _ga_, and they last up to two years. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, they are not set unless you agree to them. Without your agreement, your browser still sends Google a request with the page address and your browser details, but with no cookies and no identifier that stays on your device. Everywhere else the cookies are set when the page has loaded. You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on.
Where data goes
Our host and Google are the two services that receive technical information about your visit. Both run servers in many countries, so your data may be processed outside the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Their own policies say how.
Children
UncleSums is written for adults. It isn’t directed at children under 13 (in some countries the age is higher), and we don’t knowingly collect information from children.
Your rights
Because we keep no account and no profile, there is nothing about you for us to look up, correct or delete. Our host and Google hold their own data under their own policies, and you can ask them for access, correction or deletion. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your data protection authority. If you think we hold something about you, write to us at contact@unclesums.com and we will answer within a month. If you write to us, we keep your message and your address only to answer you.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that matters, we will change the date at the top and say what changed.
